about
We started with the drums and that big, booming synth bass sound. It reminded me of waves crashing on a shore. I used to spend a lot of time at the ocean when I first moved to LA. There’s a satisfying unpredictability, listening to the movement of the waves. I’m always trying to find that sweet spot between consistency and randomness. I’ll finally have a moment of calm when out of the blue the pull of a person or a situation will overtake me. Suddenly I’m eating sand and gasping for air, in love with life again, because something exhilarating has finally happened. “Into the Water” is about that “awe-feeling” you get when you dive into the experience of the moment.
lyrics
I can’t take it anymore
I reach out and hit the floor
I just want to be someone Without trying to be someone lay back and have some fun Stick some flowers in a
Gun, Oh I
Don’t know why I try
Then I remember
And breathe into
That high
Oh I
Jump and
Take that dive
Into the water
Shiny pieces of my heart Lighting up inside a spark
Of a thought I used to dream Dreaming of what love could mean If it meant that it’d be you Showing me what love could
Do, Oh I
Notice when my mind
Pays more attention to
The years the love went dry Then I
Jump and take that dive
Into the Water
and I go outside
cross the street
and you cross my mind
thinking I don't care
chewing on a fruit
but I want you right here
not there
that's not fair
I cannot be
who you want me to be
I cannot fly
if you take away the sky
I cannot be
who you want me to be
I cannot be me
if you just want me
for some functionality, no!
I can’t take it anymore
I reach out and hit the floor
I just want to be someone Without trying to be someone lay back and have some fun Stick some flowers in a gun...
